1. Choose a Type of Adventurous Journey
Decide whether you want to undertake an Expedition (a journey with a purpose) or Exploration (a purpose with a journey)
2. Gather a Team
If you are undertaking an Expedition or Exploration, form a small team.
3. Choose Your Assessor
Choose your Assessor. For a journey, you may also need additional adult volunteers to assist you with training and preparation, and on the actual journey itself.
4. Journey Purpose
Define the purpose for your journey. Please note for Expeditions and Explorations, each member of the team may have different purposes to pursue.
5. Plan Your Journey
Plan your journey with your Assessor(s). At this stage you will need to define what training and prepartion is needed. Please note that for Expeditions some training is mandatory.
6. Journey Planning Approved
Seek approval from your Coordinator.
7. Training and Preparation
Undertake relevant training and preparation. Your Assessor(s) and Coordinators are there to guide you on what training is required. This may be such things as first aid, safety, route planning and navigation, and team building and leadership.
8. Practice Journey
Once you have completed your training and it has been signed off by your Assessor(s) you can go on your practice journey.
Please note that at least one practice journey must be undertaken, and in some cases more than one is required.
If you have started your Award at Silver or Gold levels you may need to undertake two or three practice journeys prior to your qualifying journey. Please discuss this with your Assessor(s) and Coordinator.
9. Qualifying Journey
Undertake and complete your qualifying journey.
10. Keep a Record
Keep a journey log/report. This may be a written report, a scrapbook, or even a video.
11. Final Assessment
Once you have completed your qualifying journey and your journey log, ask your Assessor to complete your final assessment in your Record Book.
12. Submit Your Records
Once you have completed all your sections, submit your journey records, either by Record Book or Online Record Book to your Coordinator for final Assessment of your Award.
Remember, your Coordinator and Assessor are there to guide you and help with any questions you have along the way, so don’t be afraid to ask!
