Independent Participants

WANT TO DO THE AWARD BUT DON'T HAVE A GROUP TO DO IT WITH?

The Award in Victoria will assist you to do your Award as an Independent.

Step 1 - Contact the Victorian Award Office

Contact the office for an Independent Pack

73-77 Wellington Street, Collingwood, Vic, 3066

Step 2 - Complete your registration

Complete the registration card which is in the pack and return it to the office with payment.  Your Record Book will then be sent to you and you will become a registered Participant.

Step 3 - Seek assistance where needed

While you are doing Your Award, there are two main sources of assistance available to you:

  1. The Victorian Award Office
  2. Ray Connor, a volunteer who helps us a lot with Independent Participants, particularly the Adventurous Journey.

Step 4 - Choose your Award activities

Choose your activities for each Section.   If you are unsure about what Activities you can do for each Section, please see the Activity ideas pages:

Step 5 - Choose your Assessors

You will need an Assessor for each Section of your Award.  Your Assessor needs to be an adult (over 18) who is either qualified or experienced in your chosen Activity.  Goals need to be set with your Assessors for each Activity, to help monitor your progress.

Step 6 - Have Your Award Assessed

When you have completed the required time for each Section, your Assessors will write a report on how you have gone, and sign-off that Section as complete.  When you have completed all the Sections, and the Assessors have written their reports, send your book to either the Victorian Award Office or to Ray Connor (details below) for final approval.  If it is Bronze or Silver, your certificate and badge and book will be sent to you.  The opportunity then exists for you to continue to the next level.

If you complete your Gold Award, please send the book to the Victorian Award Office.  Once that is Assessed, we will send a letter notifying you that you have achieved your Gold Award, with your badge.  You will then be invited to the next Gold Award Ceremony that we hold (typically in December and June each year).

Having problems with your Adventurous Journey? Hiking

Ray Connor can help you.  Ray assists with Adventurous Journeys by helping provide bushwalking expeditions during the school holidays in the Gippsland area (you don't have to live in Gippsland to take advantage of this) for all three levels of The Award.  For the next bushwalks, please see the Events Calendar.
