MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Can you believe we’re in December already?! This year has flown by and it has been jam packed with unbelievable stuff. I'm sure that everyone has been super busy have missed event stories, so I've made a short list for you to catch up on!
- A group of Gold participants did their residential project in China and Tibet - yes, if you didn’t know The Award is international you really need to explore your options and not restrict yourself! As if travel isn't awesome!
- The first Wilderness to Wharf held in Darwin where kids from the rural areas got to head to the big city to partake in an amazing race
- The Asia Pacific Water Forum which I was lucky enough to attend in Singapore as an Australian delegate – I made some unbelievable friends, one of whom was in Sydney last week and we caught up (Hey Oliver!)
- The Award’s first Dressed to Kilt fundraiser at Doltone House only last month which was a huge fashion event and a massive hit!
- All of the fantastic Award ceremonies being held around Australia to celebrate participant’s finishing of their Award - it must be the greatest feeling to get to the end and look back on what you’ve been able to do! We have an events calendar which lists all dates of ceremonies in States so make sure to keep tabs :)
- The International Gold Event in Mauritius – now who could possibly say they aren’t jealous when looking at all the photos and the videos of their adventures while over there? (I’m friends with some of the Australian delegates who are on Facebook and they still haven’t run out of photos to upload haha)
So now we’re at the end of the year, summertime! and usually my summer consists of me sitting on my butt at the beach, but this year I’ve had an epiphany and realized that there is HEAPS of awesome stuff that I could do to fit into my ‘summer of fun’ lifestyle and make 2008 memorable! So I started googling (I'm Gen Y so of course I turned to the net) and I found I could do Parasailing, Wakeboarding, Surfing, Beach volleyball, Sailing, Wave-riding, Swimming, White water rafting, Fishing, Sand castle building (don’t laugh! Have you seen those unreal sand castles by professionals?) So many choices, but I chose surfing :) haha i'll be carving it up like Layne Beachley in no time haha
So, you’re probably wondering what this has to do with The Award right? Well genius here is going to use my surfing to keep up my physical rec throughout the holidays!! And if you think about it, there are some things in summer (like surfing) that you definitely DON’T want to be trying out in the middle of winter…freezing my butt off is definitely something I’m not keen on. I’m sure that there are stacks of things to do in summer that would count towards The Award but have fun doing it (and not just physical rec stuff) so I definitely recommend a brainstorm of ideas and googling – you’ll be surprised what’s out there!
2009 is looking to be a great year, with Australia hosting the International Forum 2009, where delegates from 160 countries around the globe are coming HERE to Sydney (sorry if you’re in other cities!) and other than seeing the great tourist sights like the Opera House and Luna Park, they'll also partake in the traditional Aussie meal...fish and chips! lol That’s just one unreal event that’s happening so I can’t wait to see what else is going to happen. I'll keep you posted on what's new and as well as my summer fun (probably me stacking it but meh, what fun is there in being too serious!?)
Have a great summer guys and speak soon Cheers! Megz xo
